Visitors from countries where dinner begins at 5 or 6 p.m. may find Italian schedules surprising.
Dinner commonly starts later, especially in southern Italy and during summer. Arriving at a restaurant too early may mean finding an empty dining room—or discovering the kitchen hasn’t opened yet.
