Sophia Loren was married to Carlo Ponti on two occasions. Their first marriage took place in 1957, but it was annulled in 1962 because Ponti’s previous divorce from Giuliana Ponti was not legally recognized in Italy.
This put Sophia and Carlo at risk of being arrested. However, the couple later remarried in 1966 after Ponti obtained a French divorce that was recognized in Italy.
