Chile experiences some of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded.

In 1960, the country was struck by the Great Chilean Earthquake, measuring magnitude 9.5—the most powerful earthquake ever instrumentally recorded. Because major earthquakes occur regularly, Chile has developed some of the world’s strictest earthquake-resistant building standards.
