Murmansk is the largest city north of the Arctic Circle.
Winters are dark, snowy, and very cold. Surprisingly, its coastal location moderates temperatures somewhat compared with inland Arctic areas, but the long winter still makes Murmansk one of Europe’s coldest cities.
