Powerful earthquakes rocked the world in less than 24 hours, striking Venezuela, Japan, Northern California, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines.
The deadliest impacts were in Venezuela, where two back-to-back earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 devastated several cities, leaving at least 200 people dead and more than 1,500 injured as rescue crews continue searching for survivors.
Meanwhile, strong quakes also shook Japan, Northern California, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines, prompting evacuations, aftershock warnings, and emergency inspections.
Although the timing raised concerns online, seismologists say the earthquakes occurred on different fault systems and are not believed to be directly connected.
