Birmingham reported a violent crime rate of over 1,300 incidents per 100,000 residents, which ranks it as the 10th highest in the country.
However, there is some good news as this is a reduction from the previous year’s rate of over 1,500 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.
Milwaukee
Milwaukee has seen a surge in violent crime in recent years, with reported incidents increasing from 1,045 to 1,364 per 100,000 residents.
Nevertheless, it’s essential to note that an increase in reported crimes does not necessarily indicate a rise in danger levels in Milwaukee.
Rockford
Out of all the cities across the United States, Rockford was one of just three cities that had an aggravated assault rate surpassing 1,000 incidents.
Although Rockford’s murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rate was 13 per 100,000, which is considerably lower compared to several other hazardous cities, it was still almost three times higher than the national murder rate of 4.5 per 100,000 residents.
Baltimore
Despite the nationwide decline in violent crimes in recent years, Baltimore remains one of the most dangerous cities with a high rate of violent crime.
Although the number of violent crimes decreased from 9,316 to 8,725 last year, there were still 4.5 murders per 100,000 people in the USA, indicating the severity of the issue.
Little Rock, Arkansas
Not only did Little Rock have one of the highest rates of violent crime in the country, but it also ranked among the worst in terms of property crime.
In the previous year, there were more than 1,400 reported incidents of violent crime and over 7,800 reported incidents of property crime for every 100,000 residents.
Cleveland
The high incidence of violent crime in Cleveland may be influenced, at least in part, by factors such as low levels of educational attainment and high poverty rates among local residents.
In comparison to national averages, a smaller proportion of adults in the area have completed high school (only 78.2%) and hold a bachelor’s degree (16.5% or less).
St. Louis
Last year, St. Louis reported over 5,000 incidents of violent crime, equivalent to nearly 1,600 per 100,000 individuals. Despite this alarming figure, there has been a decrease in violent crime in St. Louis, as seen across the nation in recent years.
Memphis, Tenn.
Last year, Memphis reported 7,200 cases of aggravated assault, contributing significantly to the city’s high violent crime rate of 1,656 per 100,000 residents.
This places Memphis among the top cities in the United States with some of the highest figures for violent crime.
Detroit
Detroit had the highest violent crime rate in the country last year, with 2,072 incidents per 100,000 people.
However, there was a slight improvement in the situation since the violent crime rate decreased from 2,123 incidents per 100,000 people.
Oakland, California
Oakland has faced a persistent issue with a crime over the years, and unfortunately, the situation did not improve last year. In 2022, the city witnessed close to 2,000 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, which is a cause for concern.
Additionally, with 1,219 robberies per 100,000 residents, Oakland had the highest robbery rate among all major American cities.
